What is Paver Sealing?

Paver sealing is a process that involves applying a protective sealant or coating to the surface of pavers, which are often used in driveways, walkways, patios, and other outdoor hardscape installations.

This sealing process offers several benefits:

  • Protection: Paver sealing helps protect the pavers from environmental factors such as UV rays and rain. It can prevent color fading, erosion, and the growth of moss, weeds, and algae between the pavers.
  • Enhanced Color and Appearance: Sealing pavers can enhance their natural color and give them a natural lust, glossy, or wet look, depending on the type of sealant used. This can significantly improve the overall aesthetics of your outdoor space.
  • Stain Resistance: Sealed pavers are more resistant to staining from oil, grease, food, and other common spills. The sealant creates a barrier that reduces the ability for stains to penetrate allowing for a simple and worry free cleaning.
  • Reduce maintenance: Paver sealing can extend the lifespan of your pavers by reducing wear and tear for years to come. It helps prevent cracking and chipping, especially in regions with extreme weather conditions. We offer joint stabilization which will harden the fresh sand to create an interlocking segmental system to reduce sinking.
  • Reduced Efflorescence: Efflorescence is the white, powdery residue that can form on the surface of concrete or stone pavers due to the migration of minerals within the material. Sealing pavers can help reduce the occurrence of efflorescence.
  • Ease of Maintenance: Sealed pavers are generally easier to clean because the sealant forms a protective layer that prevents dirt, debris, and stains from penetrating the surface. Regular maintenance usually involves simple cleaning with water and a mild detergent.

Our Paver Sealing Process

Paver Leveling

We recommend getting all pavers leveled prior to sealing. This is an optional service we provide and helps maintain proper pitch and overall structural integrity of the pavers. This is determined during our consultation

Stripping

Upon consultation, it will be determined if the pavers need to be stripped from the previous sealer. This isn’t common, but in some cases may be necessary for the best application or to remove an improper sealing job.

Deep Clean

We do a full deep clean with pressure and chemicals brick by brick, joint by joiint to remove all algae, dirt, and other debris. We also treat to remove all rust stains, efflorescence, and oil stains.

Joint Sanding

Sand in the joints of your pavers is the structure that holds your pavers in place preventing them from moving. Eventually, a new application of sand is necessary to fill the joints where the sand has been tarnished or is no longer there. Here we hand brush a new application of sand in the joints which aids in restoring the structural longevity, appearance, and resistance to nuisances such as weeds and ant hills forming.

Sealing

Two coats of High-quality sealer are applied to the face of the fully prepared pavers along with their joints. Once the sealant dries the sanded joints harden and completely lock the pavers in place as well as adding a shield that protects the natural color from harsh UV rays and adds resistance to staining.

How often should I seal my pavers?

The frequency of paver sealing depends on various factors such as weather conditions, the amount of foot traffic, and the type of sealant used. In general, it is recommended to seal your pavers every two to three years.

It is possible to seal pavers yourself, but it is recommended to hire a professional for best results. Professionals have the necessary tools and experience to properly seal pavers without causing damage.

Paver sealing can enhance the color of your pavers, but it should not significantly change the color. If you are concerned about color change, it is recommended to test the sealant on a small area before applying it to the entire surface.
